Behind The Design

After 25 years in their previous location in Old Street, Friends of the Earth decided now was the perfect opportunity for a cultural and organisation change.

This change was to come in the form of the urban period warehouse The Printworks in South London.

To assure the move was a success, Peldon Rose came in as Workplace Consultants which allowed them to best understand Friends of the Earth’s occupational and cultural needs. In doing so, they provided Friends of the Earth with theoretical blueprints on what they should be looking for in a new building.

After The Printworks had been found, Peldon Rose’s final design concept was called ‘What if the world was flat?’. Simply put, they created an office that featured different geographical regions, like polar and equatorial, from around the world, pole to pole.

Peldon Rose created an office with a lower environmental footprint, which was extremely important to Friends of the Earth. From rainforest open spaces with moss walls and an ice berg meeting room, to a reception desk and lighting made out of recycled cardboard, they now have a space where people and organisations can enjoy debates and seminars in.

Oh, and did we mention they put in a boat and a treehouse into the heart of the hub space in the wetlands?!
